It was pretty bad hearing to a wedding speech that was more than 5 minutes. When I attended a wedding of my friend, her father gave a somewhat “never-ending” praises and “not really” significant stories. I’m not judging here without any reason but criticizing of how the speech was becoming a blunt. As part of the audience, I knew exactly what to hear – engaging, funny and not lengthy. So whoever is reading here that needs to make a wedding speech, always make it short and entertaining. If you take this little piece of advice, you won’t have difficulty getting the attention of your audience.

I delivered a speech on my daughter’s wedding a couple of months ago. I used a cue card which was very helpful in reminding me what to say next. There were actually several things I had to say and mention during the speech so in case I forgot them I would turn to the card I was holding. You may have strong belief in yourself that you won’t miss out anything but you standing in front of some people and guests you just met for the first time can be nerve-wracking. So, always ensure to have a cue card with you to avoid forgetting what you need to say especially the important ones.
