It is true that a father of the bride speech focuses more on the bride since she is the daughter of the speaker. But that does not mean that you won’t have anything to say to the groom at all. Based on my experience, it was an impromptu speech. I didn’t write in an index card or list the things to say. I just read some examples of father of the bride speeches to get an idea about what I might need to say. Since I didn’t have any note or card to turn to, I almost forgot to mention the groom. I knew I had to mention him at least once or twice. It was only at the conclusion part right before I made a toast that I remembered welcoming the groom in my family. It was tough making a father of the bride speech especially when you do not know the basic writing guidelines. That was my experience the first time I had to make one. Thank you for these wonderful tips. They are very helpful to me as I have only a few weeks left to make my own speech for the wedding of my daughter.
